The latest entry in Thirteen's etnic American series, this program explores Manhattan's Chinatown in its early days, how it has expanded and spawned new Chinatowns in Flushing, Queens and Sunset Park, Brooklyn. From music to festivals, from cuisine to religion, the film salutes the Chinese American experience. It also shows what life is like today for the newest generation. Like any immigrant group, Chinese Americans struggle with the age-old American conundrum: how to assimilate into the main streem while holding onto their traditions.
