Amanda is a 7-year old girl with a vivid imagination. One day she overhears the grownups at school saying ”…it was cancer that killed Camilla’s mother…possibly because she smoked so much...” In Amandas imagination cancer is a dangerous monster who kills innocent people because they smoke. She knows that mum is secretely smoking every now and then. Amanda runs home terrified, literally seeing the monster in the shadows behind her all the way home. She has to warn mum and dad.

Amanda is upset and tells her parent that the dangerous cancermonster is on the loose, killing people that smokes. They have to save mum before it’s too late. Daddy calmly explains that cancer is just a desease, not a monster. There could be a lot of different reasons why people get it, and you don’t always know why. Mum doesn’t necessarily get cancer even though she smokes once in a while.

Daddy’s attempt at explaining doesn’t make Amanda feel any safer. In her room she tells Teddy what is going on. The Cancer is a dangerous monster killing innocent people and the grownups don’t have a clue.

That night Amanda and Teddy can’t sleep. They wonder how they are going to save mum from the Cancer monster.

Amanda decides she has to do something. Together with Teddy, she embarks on a magical journey through a computer screen and into the human body to find out what the Cancer monster really is, and how it can be defeated.

 

 

Amanda and Teddy comes to a little, idyllic cell city where all the inhabitants go about their daily business in harmony

Everything is not as it seems. On the stairs of the city hall, Cancerus is proclaiming that the constitution is changed. From now on, he is the one in charge and everyone has to start bulding.

Cancerus is giving out flyers to the inhabitants. When they start reading the flyer, they become grey and start building frenetically in a trance.

Soon the little cell city is dark and heavily polluted. Amanda and Teddy are helplessly watching,

When everything seems to be lost, they hear song and encouraging cheers. Through the city gates comes a flock of creatures having the apperances of fruits and vegetables. They are giving out nutrients to the builders who instantly stop building and goes back to their original tasks. As more and more builders wake up from the trance, the Cancer monster is getting weaker and weaker and his voice is getting lighter.

Amanda and Teddy are back in her room when mum comes in to see what the noice is. It is way past Amanda's bedtime.

Amanda has realized that the serious situation requires drastic measures. It is crucial that mum stops smoking to avoid the Cancer monster. Amanda steals mum’s secret stash of cigarettes while Teddy is keeping watch.

She buries them under the apple tree in the back yard.

To mum’s big surprise Amanda insists on having broccoli, onion, carrotts and fish for dinner. Hot dogs used to be her favorite. Amanda goes with mum to the supermarket to be sure that she is buying vegetables that look like the creatures from the cell city. When mum is looking longingly towards the cigarettes Amanda sets up a determined face.

After dinner mum realizes that her cigarettes are missing. She grills Amanda about their whereabouts until she gives in and admits that she has buried them in the backyard. Mum runs out frustrated and angry.

While mum is digging up the crumbled cigarettes she realizes that Amanda is only concerned about her well being and trying to save her from the Cancer monster. Mum feels bad that Amanda has been so worried. She hugs her and promise to stop smoking.

Amanda and Teddy falls soundly asleep, knowing the whole family is safe from the Cancer Monster.
